Jamaica takes top Caribbean honours in World Travel Awards

World Travel Awards awarded Jamaica trophies for Caribbean’s Leading Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination, and Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board.

Sangster International Airport was also named Caribbean’s Leading Airport.

The winners of the World Travel Awards of this year were announced this week, with Jamaica taking the majority of top honors.

Cuba won the title for Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination, The Bahamas won Caribbean’s Leading Cultural Destination, Turks and Caicos won Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination, and The Bahamas won Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination as well as Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination.

Sandals was named Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand, with Sandals Royal Barbados being the Caribbean’s Leading Resort, Sandals Grande Antigua being the Caribbean’s Most Romantic Resort, and Sandals Grenada being the Caribbean’s Leading Luxury All-Inclusive Resort.

Among Caribbean all-inclusive resorts, Beaches Turks and Caicos was named the best.

The Ritz-Carlton, Turks and Caicos, won Caribbean’s Leading New Resort award, and Montego Bay’s Eclipse at Half Moon was named Caribbean’s Leading New Hotel.

Hospitality winners included Dominican Republic’s JW Marriott Hotel Santo Domingo (Caribbean’s Leading Hotel); Jamaica’s Round Hill Resort; and Canada’s Hotel de la Paix

The Hill Hotel & Villas (the Caribbean’s Leading Villa Resort); Beaches Turks and Caicos (the Caribbean’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort family resort); and GoldenEye (the Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Resort).

The results are based on a yearlong search of the world’s best travel, tourism and hospitality brands.

Travel industry professionals and the general public voted, and the nominee gaining the most votes in a category was named the winner.
