Bacchanal Hosts 2016 Band, Costume Launch
On Friday, Bacchanal Jamaica held its New Year’s launch party at the New Mas Camp, National Stadium. The event was attended by prospective patrons and media personalities. Host for the night was media personality Nicki Z, who introduced patrons to this year’s concept, Bacchanal Legacy.
Soca DJs like Back2Basics, Richie Ras and DJ Sanjay delivered the musical package, pulling for new and old hits. While patrons didn’t seem familiar with some of the newer songs, they sung catchphrases and danced anyway.
Bacchanal director Charmaine Franklin said, “We are very pleased that this New Year’s party is now one of the major events of the season, attracting not only traditional revellers but a large band of new partygoers eager to experience the fun of the carnival experience … . We have a range of creative designs, including the front-line and back-line costumes that have become quite popular, and the addition of a few super front-line costumes. There will also be T-shirts and leisure wear for the more conservative.”
Among the many artistes who will be leading the charge at Bacchanal Fridays are soca favourites Destra and her Bakanal Band, Bunji Garlin, Fayann Lyons and the Asylum Band, and Kes the Band. While the DJs booked will include DJ Smoke, Richie RAS, Richie D, and DJLantern.
The ever-popular Socacise is back on the calendar of activities, as well as Beach Jouvert and Bacchanal Jouvert. This year, Bacchanal will also be adding a bit of competition among the costume sections, which will vie for Best Costume Design Section 2016, Bacchanal Monarch 2016 and Spirit of Bacchanal 2016.
We feel that this will help to present a greater spectacle on the road parade as the costume revellers come together as a cohesive force to showcase their costumes, and want to involve the public as well in making some of the selections,” said Michael Ammar, Bacchanal Jamaica director.
The costumes for Carnival 2016 were officially unveiled to the public at 12:30 a.m. Patrons received an eyeful, as many
